The Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle. It sheds very little, gets along with kids, and doesn’t need much more than a daily walk and some couch time to feel content. Adults run 8 to 25 pounds, so it fits homes of almost any size, from a Philadelphia rowhome to a rural property outside Lancaster.

At 5 to 15 pounds fully grown, the Maltipoo is the smallest of the three breeds we place, and it sheds close to nothing. That makes it a strong pick for apartment living in cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and for households managing mild dog allergies. The tradeoff is real fragility: a Maltipoo this size is easily hurt by a fall off furniture, a boisterous toddler, or an unmanaged large dog.

The Teddy Bear is a Shih Tzu crossed with a Bichon Frise, and it’s the calmest of the three breeds we place. It’s happy with a daily walk and a lot of couch time, and its dense, plush coat holds up well through a Pennsylvania winter once it’s used to outerwear. It’s a favorite with retirees and single-person households across our Pennsylvania service area.

Spring and Fall
Mild temperatures in the 50s to 70s°F, with manageable humidity, make these the easiest seasons for daily walks statewide.
Winter
Snowfall varies widely by region: Erie sees heavy lake-effect snow well over 100 inches a year, while cities farther south and east typically see 20 to 40 inches. A lined coat below freezing and paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks matter everywhere, especially for the Maltipoo, which loses body heat fastest at 5 to 15 pounds.
Summer
Southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia and Reading, runs warm and humid in July and August. Pittsburgh and the northern tier run a few degrees milder. Morning or evening walks work better than midday ones during the hottest stretches, wherever you are in the state.
Grooming
Professional grooming runs roughly $50 to $90 per session depending on your city and groomer. Cavapoos typically go every 6 to 8 weeks (F1b coats need it more often than F1), while Maltipoos and Teddy Bears do best every 4 to 6 weeks with daily brushing at home in between. You’ll get complete health records with your puppy, and we never plan a litter from a parent with an unresolved health flag.
