We’re Dan and Melissa, owners of Boundless Horizon Puppies (based in Millersburg, Ohio, since 2022). We place Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies with families nationwide through a vetted network of family home raisers, never a kennel. Dan personally evaluates every home raiser before any placement, and stays the direct point of contact from your first phone call through delivery day, and for the life of your dog.

Reading is the seat of Berks County, with Reading Hospital (Tower Health) and Penn State Health St. Joseph anchoring a large healthcare workforce, plus Alvernia University and a long manufacturing and small-business tradition. That mix keeps us busy across neighborhoods from the Centre Park Historic District to Wyomissing and West Reading. Read how our placement process works.

Cavapoo Puppies

The Cavapoo fits right into Reading life, whether that’s a rowhome in the Centre Park Historic District, a Wyomissing yard, or a West Reading duplex. It sheds very little, gets along with kids, and doesn’t need much more than a daily walk and some couch time to feel content. Adults run 8 to 25 pounds, so it fits homes of almost any size.

A note on cardiac health: the Cavalier King Charles side of a Cavapoo’s genetics carries a known risk for Mitral Valve Disease, the leading cause of early death in the breed. We follow the MVD Breeding Protocol on every parent dog: no Cavalier is bred before age 2.5 without a clear cardiac evaluation, and none is bred if a parent showed MVD before age 5. Ask your Reading vet to start annual cardiac auscultation at age 2. It’s a manageable condition with the right monitoring, not a reason to avoid the breed, but it’s worth knowing before you commit.

Maltese × Toy Poodle. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit. Litters go quickly.

At 5 to 15 pounds fully grown, the Maltipoo is the smallest of the three breeds we place, and it sheds close to nothing. That makes it a strong pick for downtown Reading apartments and older row homes, and for households managing mild dog allergies. The tradeoff is real fragility: a Maltipoo this size is easily hurt by a fall off furniture, a boisterous toddler, or an unmanaged large dog.

Size means real fragility. If your household has kids under 4 or a large dog that hasn’t been trained around small animals, call us before you reserve. We’ll have an honest conversation about timing.

Teddy Bear (Shichon) Puppies

Teddy Bear Puppies Available Now

Shih Tzu × Bichon Frise. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit. Litters go quickly.

The Teddy Bear is the calmest of the three breeds we place, and it’s the one we recommend most often to Reading retirees and single-person households in quieter spots like Wyomissing and Mount Penn. It’s happy with a daily walk and a lot of couch time, and its dense, plush coat holds up well through a Reading winter once it’s used to outerwear.

Eye care is a daily habit, not an occasional one. The Shih Tzu side of this cross gives Teddy Bears prominent eyes that collect debris and stain more than most breeds. Wipe the inner corners daily and keep hair trimmed away from the eyes. Ask your vet to check them at every annual visit.

Reading Weather: What to Expect Year-Round

Winter

Reading averages about 23 inches of snow a year. January highs run around 38°F, with overnight lows dropping into the low-to-mid 20s. A lined coat for walks below freezing and paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks make a real difference for all three breeds, especially the Maltipoo, which loses body heat fastest at 5 to 15 pounds.

Summer

Reading summers run warm and humid, with July highs averaging around 85°F and some days climbing higher. The Schuylkill Valley’s geography can trap heat and humidity in July and August. Morning or evening walks work better than midday ones during those months.

Grooming Cost in Reading

Professional grooming in the Reading area runs about $58 to $88 per session. Cavapoos typically go every 6 to 8 weeks (F1b coats need it more often than F1), while Maltipoos and Teddy Bears do best every 4 to 6 weeks with daily brushing at home in between.

Questions Reading Families Ask

How far is Reading, Pennsylvania from Millersburg, Ohio?

About 374 miles, roughly 7 hours. The route runs east on US-422 or I-176 to I-76 (the Pennsylvania Turnpike), then west back across Pennsylvania and Ohio on I-76 to OH-83 South into Millersburg. Delivery to Reading and all of Berks County is a flat $599. You can also meet your puppy at Deer Run Park in Millersburg, Ohio, if you’d rather make the drive yourself.

Do you deliver Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies to Reading, Pennsylvania?

Yes. We deliver all three breeds to Reading and all of Berks County for a flat $599, arranged personally and driven in a private, climate-controlled vehicle, never sent as air cargo. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit and call or text (330) 238-8997 to get on the schedule.

Can I pick up my puppy instead of having it delivered?

Yes. Families are welcome to meet their puppy at Deer Run Park, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg, OH 44654, which has the Pampered Paws Dog Park on site. From Reading, take US-422 or I-176 to I-76 East (Pennsylvania Turnpike), continue west across Pennsylvania into Ohio, then head south on OH-83 into Millersburg. Plan on roughly 7 hours.

What health testing do the parent dogs have?

Every parent dog in our program goes through an OFA eye exam, a patella check, and a full genetic panel before we plan any litter. Cavalier-cross parents used for our Cavapoos also follow the MVD Breeding Protocol for cardiac screening. You’ll get complete health records with your puppy, and we never plan a litter from a parent with an unresolved health flag.

How much snow does Reading get, and how do these breeds handle it?

Reading averages about 23 inches of snow a year. All three breeds do well here with basic winter gear: a lined coat for walks below freezing, paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks, and shorter outdoor sessions on the coldest days for the Maltipoo. January highs run around 38 degrees, so daily walks stay part of the routine through winter.

What does grooming cost in Reading for these breeds?

Plan on $58 to $88 per session every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the breed and coat type, with Maltipoos and Teddy Bears on the more frequent end and F1b Cavapoos needing more upkeep than F1s. Between visits, brush 2 to 3 times a week at minimum (daily for Maltipoos and Teddy Bears) and start tooth brushing the first week home.
