We’re Dan and Melissa, owners of Boundless Horizon Puppies (based in Millersburg, Ohio, since 2022). We place Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies with families nationwide through a vetted network of family home raisers, never a kennel. Dan personally evaluates every home raiser before any placement, and stays the direct point of contact from your first phone call through delivery day, and for the life of your dog.

Erie’s lakefront neighborhoods, Gannon University and Penn State Behrend student and faculty households, and the city’s mix of longtime residents and healthcare workers at UPMC Hamot make it a steady market for all three of our breeds. Read how our placement process works.

Cavapoo Puppies

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel × Poodle. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit. Litters go quickly.

The Cavapoo is a gentle, people-focused dog that does well in Erie’s mix of city neighborhoods and quieter suburban streets. It sheds very little, gets along with kids, and doesn’t need much more than a daily walk and some couch time to feel content. Adults run 8 to 25 pounds, so it fits homes of almost any size.

A note on cardiac health: the Cavalier King Charles side of a Cavapoo’s genetics carries a known risk for Mitral Valve Disease, the leading cause of early death in the breed. We follow the MVD Breeding Protocol on every parent dog: no Cavalier is bred before age 2.5 without a clear cardiac evaluation, and none is bred if a parent showed MVD before age 5. Ask your Erie vet to start annual cardiac auscultation at age 2. It’s a manageable condition with the right monitoring, not a reason to avoid the breed, but it’s worth knowing before you commit.

At 5 to 15 pounds fully grown, the Maltipoo is the smallest of the three breeds we place, and it sheds close to nothing. That makes it a strong pick for Erie apartments and for households managing mild dog allergies. The tradeoff is real fragility: a Maltipoo this size is easily hurt by a fall off furniture, a boisterous toddler, or an unmanaged large dog.

Size means real fragility. If your household has kids under 4 or a large dog that hasn’t been trained around small animals, call us before you reserve. We’ll have an honest conversation about timing.

The Teddy Bear is the calmest of the three breeds we place, and it’s the one we recommend most often to Erie retirees and single-person households. It’s happy with a daily walk and a lot of couch time, and its dense, plush coat holds up well through an Erie winter once it’s used to outerwear.

Eye care is a daily habit, not an occasional one. The Shih Tzu side of this cross gives Teddy Bears prominent eyes that collect debris and stain more than most breeds. Wipe the inner corners daily and keep hair trimmed away from the eyes. Ask your vet to check them at every annual visit.

Erie Weather: What to Expect Year-Round

Winter

Erie averages about 104 inches of snow a year, close to the top of any city in our service area, driven by lake-effect storms rolling off Lake Erie. January highs sit in the mid-30s°F, with lows that drop into the teens or single digits during the heaviest lake-effect stretches. A lined coat for walks below freezing and paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks make a real difference for all three breeds. The Teddy Bear’s dense coat handles the cold best; the Maltipoo, at 5 to 15 pounds, loses body heat fastest and needs the shortest outdoor sessions on the worst days.

Summer

Lake Erie keeps summers mild compared to most of Pennsylvania. July highs average around 81°F, and humidity off the lake is the main thing to plan for rather than heat itself. Morning or evening walks work better than midday ones from June through August.

Grooming Cost in Erie

Professional grooming in the Erie area runs about $45 to $80 per session. Cavapoos typically go every 6 to 8 weeks (F1b coats need it more often than F1), while Maltipoos and Teddy Bears do best every 4 to 6 weeks with daily brushing at home in between.

Leash requirements vary by location, so we’ve noted them below.

Presque Isle State Park

301 Peninsula Dr, Erie, PA 16505
Leashed dogs are welcome throughout this 3,200-acre lakefront peninsula, including the 13.5-mile paved Karl Boys Trail and most picnic areas. Dogs may never be left unattended.

Frontier Park

1501 W 6th St, Erie, PA 16505
A large waterfront city park along Cascade Creek, home to the Lake Erie Arboretum. Good year-round walking option on Erie’s west side; leash your dog, since it isn’t a designated off-leash area.

Asbury Woods Nature Center

4105 Asbury Rd, Erie, PA 16506
205 wooded acres with leashed dogs permitted on the Greenway, Guided, and Touvell trails. A quieter alternative to Presque Isle, and closer to Erie’s west-side neighborhoods.

Questions Erie Families Ask

How far is Erie, Pennsylvania from Millersburg, Ohio?

About 178 miles, roughly a 3-hour drive. The route runs south through Holmes County to the Akron-Cleveland area, then north on I-90 along the Lake Erie shoreline into Erie. Delivery to Erie and the rest of Erie County is a flat $599. You can also meet your puppy at Deer Run Park in Millersburg, Ohio, if you’d rather make the drive yourself.

Do you deliver Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies to Erie, Pennsylvania?

Yes. We deliver all three breeds to Erie and Erie County for a flat $599, arranged personally and driven in a private, climate-controlled vehicle, never sent as air cargo. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit and call or text (330) 238-8997 to get on the schedule.

Can I pick up my puppy instead of having it delivered?

Yes. Families are welcome to meet their puppy at Deer Run Park, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg, OH 44654, which has the Pampered Paws Dog Park on site. From Erie, take I-90 East to Cleveland, then I-77 South toward Akron and Canton, and follow OH-83 South into Millersburg. Plan on roughly 3 hours.

What health testing do the parent dogs have?

Every parent dog in our program gets an OFA eye exam, a patella check, and a full genetic panel before any litter is planned. Cavalier-cross parents (used for our Cavapoos) also follow the MVD Breeding Protocol for cardiac screening. Health records come with every puppy, and no litter is planned from a parent with an unresolved health flag.

How much snow does Erie get, and how do these breeds handle it?

Erie averages about 104 inches of snow a year, among the highest totals in Pennsylvania, driven by lake-effect storms off Lake Erie. All three breeds do fine here with the right gear: a lined coat for walks below freezing, paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks, and shorter outdoor sessions on the heaviest snow days. January highs run in the mid-30s, so outdoor time doesn’t need to stop, just shrink.

What does grooming cost in Erie for these breeds?

Plan on $45 to $80 per session every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the breed and coat type, with Maltipoos and Teddy Bears on the more frequent end and F1b Cavapoos needing more upkeep than F1s. Between visits, brush 2 to 3 times a week at minimum (daily for Maltipoos and Teddy Bears) and start tooth brushing the first week home.
