Cavapoo, Maltipoo, Teddy Bear Puppies for Sale in South Bend, Indiana

About Us
We’re Dan and Melissa, owners of Boundless Horizon Puppies based in Millersburg, Ohio, since 2022. We place Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies with South Bend and St. Joseph County families through a vetted network of family home raisers, never a commercial facility. We evaluate every home raiser in person before any litter is placed.
South Bend grew up around the St. Joseph River and the Studebaker Corporation, whose wagon-and-automobile factory anchored the city’s economy for nearly a century before closing in 1963; the old Studebaker campus is being rebuilt today as a tech and business corridor, and the Studebaker National Museum downtown keeps that history on display. The University of Notre Dame, along with neighboring Saint Mary’s College and Holy Cross College, sits just north of downtown and gives South Bend a college-town pulse most of the year, while the East Race Waterway, one of the few man-made whitewater courses in North America, runs right through downtown. South Bend also sits close enough to Lake Michigan to pick up real lake-effect snow most winters, a different climate story than any other Indiana city we serve. Read about our ENS training program, our 2-year health guarantee, and our placement process.

South Bend sits right next to Elkhart County, the self-described RV Capital of the World, and a good number of our Cavapoo families here have at least one parent commuting east for work in that industry, along with others working at the University of Notre Dame or the Beacon Health System hospital campus downtown. That’s a mix of long shift schedules and steady 9-to-5 jobs, and a Cavapoo’s easygoing, people-oriented temperament handles either one well. The breed still bonds closely and can develop separation anxiety past 8 to 10 hours alone, so if your household’s combined time away runs longer than that, talk to us about a midday dog walker before you reserve.

A lot of our Maltipoo calls from South Bend come from Eddy Street Commons and the other apartment developments that have gone up around Notre Dame’s edge over the past decade, where lease rules cap dog size and a small, low-shedding breed is often the only real option. That fits South Bend’s snowy winters too, since a Maltipoo needs shorter outdoor bathroom breaks rather than a long daily hike, and spends most of a January day curled up inside anyway. The tradeoff at 5 to 15 pounds is real fragility, so a Maltipoo still needs supervision around young kids and bigger dogs, apartment building or not.

Teddy Bear Puppies

Our South Bend Teddy Bear buyers usually fall into two groups: retirees near Rum Village Park who’ve traded a bigger house for something easier to manage, and Notre Dame or Beacon Health System staff nearing retirement who want a low-key companion rather than a project dog. Both groups are looking for the same thing, a dog that’s content with a short walk and a lot of couch time, which suits the breed well. The daily eye and dental routine is the real commitment here, not exercise, and it becomes second nature fast.

St. Joseph County Weather
Winter
St. Joseph County sits close enough to Lake Michigan to pick up real lake-effect snow, and it shows: South Bend averages around 65 to 68 inches of snow a year, more than double what many other Indiana cities we serve see, with January highs around 31°F. Shorter, more frequent walks handle the coldest stretches better than one long walk for all three breeds.
Summer
Summers are milder than the winters might suggest, with July highs typically in the low-to-mid 80s°F. Shift walks to before 9am or after 7pm from June through August.
Heartworm Prevention
Mosquito season in the South Bend area generally runs April through October, and lake-moderated humidity can keep it active a little later into fall than farther south in the state. Ask your South Bend vet about year-round prevention rather than seasonal dosing.

South Bend, Indiana Puppy FAQ
Do you deliver puppies to South Bend, Indiana?
Yes. We deliver Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies to South Bend and all of St. Joseph County for a flat $599. Or pick up at Deer Run Park, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg, OH 44654. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit.
What cardiac health testing do the Cavapoo parents have?
Both Cavapoo parents follow the MVD Breeding Protocol: no Cavalier bred before age 2.5 without a clear cardiac evaluation, and no dog bred if either parent showed signs of mitral valve disease before age 5. Your South Bend vet should begin annual cardiac auscultation at age 2.
How big do Maltipoo puppies get?
Adult Maltipoos usually reach 5 to 15 pounds, small enough that falls, rough play, and larger dogs all carry more risk than they would for a bigger breed. Supervise playtime with young kids and bigger dogs.
Why do Teddy Bear puppies need daily eye care?
Yes. Teddy Bear puppies get their round, prominent eyes from the Shih Tzu side, and those eyes collect debris and develop tear staining more easily than most breeds. A daily wipe with a damp cloth and keeping hair trimmed away from the eyes prevents most issues.
What is the weather like in South Bend, Indiana?
St. Joseph County sits close enough to Lake Michigan to pick up real lake-effect snow, averaging around 65 to 68 inches a year, with January highs around 31°F. Summers are milder, with July highs typically in the low-to-mid 80s°F. Plan walks for morning or evening from June through August.
