About Us
We’re Dan and Melissa, owners of Boundless Horizon Puppies based in Millersburg, Ohio, since 2022. We place Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies with Charleston and Kanawha County families through a vetted network of family home raisers, never a commercial facility. We evaluate every home raiser in person before any litter is placed.
Charleston is West Virginia’s capital and largest city, seat of Kanawha County and home to the state legislature and the Capitol building. The Kanawha River runs right through downtown, and the state’s government, healthcare, and legal sectors — anchored by CAMC Health System and Thomas Health — give Charleston a steady professional workforce unlike anywhere else in the state. Downtown’s Capitol Market, a farmers market and food hall built inside a converted early-1900s train station, is a popular weekend walk for Charleston families and their dogs. Read about our ENS training program, our 2-year health guarantee, and our placement process.

A good number of our Cavapoo families in Charleston work in state government, at one of the downtown law firms, or in healthcare at CAMC or Thomas Health — jobs with long session schedules or rotating hospital shifts. A Cavapoo’s easygoing, people-oriented temperament handles that kind of schedule well, but the breed still bonds closely and can develop separation anxiety past 8 to 10 hours alone. If your household’s combined time away runs longer than that, talk to us about a midday dog walker before you reserve.

At 5 to 15 pounds, a Maltipoo suits Charleston’s downtown lofts and South Hills condos well, and its low-shedding coat is an easy fit for busy professional households with less time for grooming upkeep than a bigger dog demands. The breed’s modest exercise needs also work well with a legislative session’s unpredictable hours — two short walks a day is plenty. The tradeoff at that size is real fragility, so supervision around young kids and larger dogs still matters regardless of housing.

Charleston’s retirees and longtime state-government employees nearing the end of a career make up a good number of our Teddy Bear buyers — people looking for a calm, devoted companion rather than a high-energy dog to keep up with. At 9 to 15 pounds with modest exercise needs, a Teddy Bear is an easy fit for a Kanawha City or South Hills home built for one or two people, and it settles into a quieter daily routine without trouble. The real commitment is the daily eye and dental care, not exercise, and it becomes routine fast.

Kanawha County Weather
Winter
Kanawha County averages around 30 to 40 inches of snow a year, with January highs typically in the low-to-mid 40s°F — milder than the mid-30s some sources quote, since that figure usually describes overnight lows rather than daytime highs. Still cold enough for a proper coat on the coldest days, especially for the smaller Maltipoo.
Summer
Charleston summers run hot and humid, with July highs typically in the mid-80s°F. The Kanawha River valley’s bowl shape traps heat and humidity more than higher-elevation West Virginia cities like Beckley or Bluefield. Shift walks to before 9am or after 7pm from June through August.
Heartworm Prevention
Mosquito season in the Charleston area generally runs April through October. Ask your Charleston vet about year-round prevention rather than seasonal dosing.
Grooming Cost in Charleston
Professional grooming every 4 to 6 weeks runs approximately $50 to $70 per session in the Charleston market. Daily brushing at home between appointments is non-negotiable for all three breeds, and daily tooth brushing from week one is the most effective prevention against dental disease, the primary long-term health cost in small breeds.

Charleston, West Virginia Puppy FAQ
Do you deliver puppies to Charleston, West Virginia?
Yes. We deliver Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies to Charleston and all of Kanawha County for a flat $599. Or pick up at Deer Run Park, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg, OH 44654. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit.
What cardiac health testing do the Cavapoo parents have?
Both Cavapoo parents follow the MVD Breeding Protocol: no Cavalier bred before age 2.5 without a clear cardiac evaluation, and no dog bred if either parent showed signs of mitral valve disease before age 5. Your Charleston vet should begin annual cardiac auscultation at age 2.
How big do Maltipoo puppies get?
Adult Maltipoos usually reach 5 to 15 pounds, small enough that falls, rough play, and larger dogs all carry more risk than they would for a bigger breed. Supervise playtime with young kids and bigger dogs.
Why do Teddy Bear puppies need daily eye care?
Teddy Bear puppies get their round, prominent eyes from the Shih Tzu side, and those eyes collect debris and develop tear staining more easily than most breeds. A daily wipe with a damp cloth and keeping hair trimmed away from the eyes prevents most issues.
