We’re Dan and Melissa, owners of Boundless Horizon Puppies (based in Millersburg, Ohio, since 2022). We place Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies with families nationwide through a vetted network of family home raisers, never a kennel. Dan personally evaluates every home raiser before any placement, and stays the direct point of contact from your first phone call through delivery day, and for the life of your dog.

Scranton is the seat of Lackawanna County, a former anthracite coal capital now built around healthcare, education, and a downtown that still shows its “Electric City” history. The University of Scranton, Marywood University, and a growing medical sector around Geisinger Community Medical Center keep the population steady, and we place puppies in neighborhoods from Green Ridge to the Hill Section, South Side, and West Scranton. The Cavapoo does well in Scranton’s mix of housing, whether that’s a Green Ridge single-family home, a Hill Section rowhome, or a South Side duplex near the university. It sheds very little, gets along with kids, and doesn’t need much more than a daily walk and some couch time to feel content. Adults run 8 to 25 pounds, so it fits homes of almost any size.

A note on cardiac health: the Cavalier King Charles side of a Cavapoo’s genetics carries a known risk for Mitral Valve Disease, the leading cause of early death in the breed. We follow the MVD Breeding Protocol on every parent dog: no Cavalier is bred before age 2.5 without a clear cardiac evaluation, and none is bred if a parent showed MVD before age 5. Ask your Scranton vet to start annual cardiac auscultation at age 2. It’s a manageable condition with the right monitoring, not a reason to avoid the breed, but it’s worth knowing before you commit.

At 5 to 15 pounds fully grown, the Maltipoo is the smallest of the three breeds we place, and it sheds close to nothing. That makes it a strong pick for downtown Scranton apartments and older Hill Section walk-ups, and for households managing mild dog allergies. The tradeoff is real fragility: a Maltipoo this size is easily hurt by a fall off furniture, a boisterous toddler, or an unmanaged large dog.

Size means real fragility. If your household has kids under 4 or a large dog that hasn’t been trained around small animals, call us before you reserve. We’ll have an honest conversation about timing.

Teddy Bear (Shichon) Puppies

Teddy Bear Puppies Available Now

Shih Tzu × Bichon Frise. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit. Litters go quickly.

The Teddy Bear is the calmest of the three breeds we place, and it’s the one we recommend most often to Scranton retirees and single-person households in quieter spots like West Scranton and the Green Ridge section. It’s happy with a daily walk and a lot of couch time, and its dense, plush coat holds up well through a Scranton winter once it’s used to outerwear.

Eye care is a daily habit, not an occasional one. The Shih Tzu side of this cross gives Teddy Bears prominent eyes that collect debris and stain more than most breeds. Wipe the inner corners daily and keep hair trimmed away from the eyes. Ask your vet to check them at every annual visit.

Scranton Weather: What to Expect Year-Round

Winter

Scranton averages around 39 inches of snow a year, more than most of our Pennsylvania service area. January highs run in the mid-30s°F, with overnight lows dropping into the teens and 20s. A lined coat for walks below freezing and paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks make a real difference for all three breeds, especially the Maltipoo, which loses body heat fastest at 5 to 15 pounds.

Summer

Scranton summers run mild compared to lower-elevation Pennsylvania cities, with July highs averaging in the low-to-mid 80s°F. It still gets warm enough on the hottest afternoons that morning or evening walks work better than midday ones.

Grooming Cost in Scranton

Professional grooming in the Scranton area runs about $55 to $85 per session. Cavapoos typically go every 6 to 8 weeks (F1b coats need it more often than F1), while Maltipoos and Teddy Bears do best every 4 to 6 weeks with daily brushing at home in between.

You can also meet your puppy at Deer Run Park in Millersburg, Ohio, if you’d rather make the drive yourself.

Do you deliver Cavapoo, Maltipoo, and Teddy Bear puppies to Scranton, Pennsylvania?

Yes. We deliver all three breeds to Scranton and all of Lackawanna County for a flat $599, arranged personally and driven in a private, climate-controlled vehicle, never sent as air cargo. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit and call or text (330) 238-8997 to get on the schedule.

Can I pick up my puppy instead of having it delivered?

Yes. Families are welcome to meet their puppy at Deer Run Park, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg, OH 44654, which has the Pampered Paws Dog Park on site. From Scranton, take I-380 North to I-80 West, then continue west across Pennsylvania into Ohio and take OH-83 South into Millersburg. Plan on roughly 6 hours 50 minutes.

What health testing do the parent dogs have?

Every parent dog in our program goes through an OFA eye exam, a patella check, and a full genetic panel before we plan any litter. Cavalier-cross parents used for our Cavapoos also follow the MVD Breeding Protocol for cardiac screening. You’ll get complete health records with your puppy, and we never plan a litter from a parent with an unresolved health flag.

How much snow does Scranton get, and how do these breeds handle it?

Scranton averages around 39 inches of snow a year, more than most of our Pennsylvania service area. All three breeds do well here with the right winter gear: a lined coat for walks below freezing, paw wax or booties on salted sidewalks, and shorter outdoor sessions on the coldest days for the Maltipoo. January highs run in the mid-30s, so daily walks stay part of the routine through winter.

What does grooming cost in Scranton for these breeds?

Plan on $55 to $85 per session every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the breed and coat type, with Maltipoos and Teddy Bears on the more frequent end and F1b Cavapoos needing more upkeep than F1s. Between visits, brush 2 to 3 times a week at minimum (daily for Maltipoos and Teddy Bears) and start tooth brushing the first week home.
