Oakland County Weather: Honest Pros and Cons
Winter
Oakland County averages around 39 to 40 inches of snow a year. A lined coat helps on walks below 30°F, and salted sidewalks are common through the winter, so wipe paws after every walk.
Summer
Farmington Hills summers run warm and humid from June through August, with July highs typically in the low-to-mid 80s°F. Walk before 9am or after 7pm on the hottest days.
Heartworm prevention, year-round
Michigan is a heartworm-risk state, and Oakland County’s ponds and the Rouge River watershed keep mosquitoes active through the warmer months. Your Farmington Hills vet will recommend a monthly preventative — ask about it at the wellness exam.
Grooming Cost in Farmington Hills
Plan on $55 to $90 per session every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on breed and coat length. Daily brushing at home between visits keeps mats from forming.

Questions Farmington Hills Families Ask
Do you deliver puppies to Farmington Hills, Michigan?
Yes. We deliver to Farmington Hills and all of Oakland County for a flat $599, private and climate-controlled. Reserve with a $200 refundable deposit and I arrange the drive personally. No airlines, no cargo. You can also meet your puppy at Deer Run Park in Millersburg, Ohio if you’d rather pick up.
What cardiac testing do the Cavapoo parents have?
Both Cavapoo parents follow the MVD breeding protocol: no Cavalier is bred before age two and a half without a clear cardiac evaluation, and neither parent showed signs of Mitral Valve Disease before age five. OFA eye and patella checks and a full genetic panel are also done. Ask your Farmington Hills vet to start annual cardiac auscultation at age two.
Are Maltipoos hypoallergenic?
No dog is completely hypoallergenic, but Maltipoos shed very little and produce low dander from both the Maltese and Poodle side. Most Oakland County families with mild to moderate dog allergies do well with one.
What is a Teddy Bear puppy?
A Teddy Bear is a Shih Tzu crossed with a Bichon Frise. It’s the calmest of the three breeds we place, with no cardiac testing requirement. The main daily jobs are eye care and dental care, and both are simple once they’re part of your routine.
How much snow does Farmington Hills get?
Oakland County averages around 39 to 40 inches of snow a year. A lined coat helps on walks below 30°F, and all three breeds handle Michigan winters fine once they’re grown.
How much does grooming cost in Farmington Hills?
Plan on $55 to $90 per session every four to six weeks, depending on the breed and coat length, plus daily brushing at home between visits.
