How Every Boundless Horizon Puppy Gets to You
From vetting our breeding partners and ENS training to family matching and lifetime support — here’s exactly what happens before your puppy ever reaches your door

What Makes the Boundless Horizon Difference
I’m Dan, and I started Boundless Horizon Puppies in 2022 with one goal: connect families with healthy, well-socialized puppies from breeders I know personally and trust completely. I’m not a breeder — I’m a placement specialist. That means my job is to know each of my breeding partners inside and out, hold them to a standard most families never get to verify on their own, and make sure every puppy that comes through me has been raised the right way before they ever meet your family.
What does that look like in practice? I’m involved from the moment a litter is planned to the moment your puppy walks through your front door — and I’m still available the day after, the week after, and years down the road. This page walks you through exactly what that process looks like.
🌟 My Commitment to Every Family
Every puppy that leaves my care has been placed with the same standard of attention — not because it’s policy, but because I know these puppies. I know their personalities, their quirks, how they play, and what kind of home will help them thrive. That’s not something you get from a pet store or a website with hundreds of breeds listed. It’s what happens when one person stays involved every step of the way.
The Complete Journey: From Planning to Your Home
My process begins long before puppies are born and continues well after they go home with you. Here’s the full picture:
Phase 1: Before Birth — Choosing the Right Breeding Partners
How I Vet Every Breeder I Work With
Ongoing — before any litter begins
I don’t work with anyone I haven’t personally evaluated. Before I agree to place puppies from a breeder, I look at how they live, how their dogs live, what their health testing looks like, and whether their values match mine. My standards include:
- Genetic health testing: Parent dogs screened for breed-specific hereditary conditions before any breeding takes place
- Home environment: Puppies raised in a home, not a kennel — around people, kids, and everyday household life from day one
- Veterinary care: Regular vet exams, proper vaccination schedules, and deworming on schedule
- ENS training: Required for every breeder I work with — non-negotiable
- Ethical practices: Proper rest between litters, no overbreeding, dogs treated as family members
🤝 I Know the Parents Personally
When you get a puppy through me, I can tell you about their mom and dad — their personalities, how they interact with people, their health history. I’ve spent time with these dogs. That’s not something I can say about every breeder in Ohio, but it’s something I can say about every single breeder I work with.

Phase 2: Birth to 2 Weeks — The Critical Early Days
Newborn Care and ENS Training
Days 0–14: Round-the-clock attention from our breeding partners
The moment puppies are born, my breeding partners begin their intensive early care routine. During these first two weeks, every puppy is weighed and monitored daily, feeding is supervised to make sure every puppy is getting proper nutrition, and the mother receives the care and support she needs.
Days 3–16: ENS Training
Starting on day 3, every puppy in my network receives Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) training. This is a protocol originally developed by the U.S. military’s bio sensor research program. Five gentle exercises are performed daily during this specific window — a window that closes at day 16 and cannot be replicated later:
These exercises build stronger immune systems, better stress tolerance, higher confidence, and enhanced learning ability — benefits that last the dog’s entire life. Learn more about ENS training →

Phase 3: Weeks 3–4 — Eyes Open, Personalities Emerge
Early Socialization and Exploration
Weeks 3–4: The world opens up
This is when it gets exciting. Eyes open, they start toddling around, and distinct personalities start to emerge. My breeding partners follow a structured early socialization routine during these weeks:
- Daily handling: Every puppy is held, cuddled, and gently handled multiple times a day by multiple people
- New surfaces: Introduction to carpet, tile, grass, and blankets so no texture is a surprise
- Sound exposure: Household sounds — vacuum, TV, music, voices at different volumes
- First toys: Safe, soft toys to start building play instincts
- One-on-one time: Individual attention with each puppy to start building their confidence separately from the litter
✨ Personality Tracking Begins
By week 4, I’m already receiving notes on each puppy’s emerging personality — who’s bold, who’s the cuddler, who leads the group, who prefers to observe. This information feeds directly into how I match puppies with families later on.
Phase 4: Weeks 5–8 — Comprehensive Socialization
Real-World Preparation Before Going Home
Weeks 5–8: The most intensive preparation period
These final weeks before going home are the most important. This is when puppies get prepared for everything they’ll encounter in real family life. My breeding partners run a structured program that includes:
🥁 Puppy Yoga Sessions
We partner with local puppy yoga classes where puppies learn to stay calm around groups of people, get comfortable being picked up and held by strangers, and experience a busy, active environment without stress.
🚗 Car Ride Training
I don’t want your puppy’s first car ride to be traumatic — so it won’t be. Every puppy gets multiple short rides in safe carriers with positive associations built in from the start. By the time they reach you, car travel is already familiar.
📷 Tabletop Training
For grooming and vet visits, puppies need to be comfortable on elevated surfaces. Puppies practice standing calmly on tables, being handled and examined while elevated, and building confidence in new positions — so their first real vet visit isn’t a shock.
🏎 Toy Play and Enrichment
Puppies learn through play. We use a variety of toy types — balls, plush, rope, and simple puzzle toys — plus interactive play with people to begin building the connection between humans and fun.
👨👩👧 Kids of All Ages
Every puppy is exposed to children of different ages in positive, controlled settings — toddlers, elementary-age kids, and teenagers. By the time your puppy comes home, children are already familiar, exciting, and safe in their experience.
Additional Preparation:
- Crate introduction: Short, positive crate experiences so the crate is already familiar and calm
- Potty training basics: Beginning the habit of going outside or on pads
- Grooming prep: Nail trimming, brushing, and bathing introduced gently
- Mock vet exams: Handling that mirrors what a vet visit looks and feels like
- Diverse people: Men, women, people in hats, beards, glasses, different voices and builds
- Environmental sounds: Doorbells, phones ringing, appliances running

⏰ The Critical Socialization Window
Weeks 3–16 of a puppy’s life are the critical socialization period. What they experience during this window shapes their entire life. By the time our puppies are 8 weeks old, they’ve had more positive exposures than many adult dogs. That’s not an accident — it’s the program.
Phase 5: Finding Your Perfect Match
Family Matching and Reservation
When you contact me: the beginning of your journey
When a family reaches out, I don’t just point them at the next available puppy. I take the time to understand what you’re actually looking for and use what I know about each puppy to find the right fit. Here’s how that conversation goes:
Initial Conversation
I talk with you about your lifestyle, your experience with dogs, who’s in your household, and what you’re hoping for. Active family that hikes on weekends? Quiet home with a senior? Single-person apartment? I listen carefully because those details matter.
Puppy Personality Assessment
Based on weeks of daily observation across the litter, I know each puppy’s personality in detail. I share honest assessments — “this one’s an adventurer who’d thrive in an active home” or “this gentle one would be perfect for a quieter household.” I’d rather steer you toward the right match than make an easy sale.
Meeting Your Puppy
When possible, I arrange for you to meet your puppy in Millersburg or via FaceTime or video call. You can see their personality in action and feel that first connection before you commit.
Reservation
Once you’ve found the right one, a $200 non-refundable deposit reserves your puppy. This holds your spot and removes the puppy from availability for other families while you prepare for their arrival.
💙 Why Matching Matters
The right match makes everything easier — training, bonding, daily life. A puppy whose energy and personality fit your household is a joy from day one. That’s why I invest time in this step instead of just processing reservations. I’ve seen what happens when the fit is right, and I’ve seen what happens when it’s not — and I’d rather get it right every time.

Phase 7: Lifetime Support
I’m Here After Your Puppy Goes Home
After going home: the relationship continues

Why This Process Works
Since starting Boundless Horizon in 2022, I’ve refined every step of this process based on what I’ve seen work — and what I’ve seen go wrong when corners get cut. Here’s what the research and results consistently show:
✅ What Families Tell Me
- Easier training: ENS-trained puppies pick up commands and housetraining faster than average
- Confident puppies: Comprehensive socialization means fewer fear responses and faster settling in new homes
- Healthier dogs: Genetic testing, proper vet care, and ENS training combine to produce more resilient puppies
- Better behavior: Early positive exposure prevents many of the common behavioral problems that come from under-socialized puppies
- Right match: Families consistently say the matching process made a real difference in how smoothly the first weeks went
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Process
When can I meet my puppy?
I welcome visits to Millersburg at 6 and 7 weeks old, before puppies go home at 8 weeks. If distance prevents an in-person visit, I’m happy to do a FaceTime or video call so you can see your puppy’s personality in real time. I also send regular photo and video updates to all families who have a reservation.
Can I choose any puppy from the litter?
I work collaboratively with every family on this. After understanding your lifestyle and preferences, I recommend puppies that are genuinely well-suited for your home. You have the final say — but I’ll be honest if I think a different puppy would be a better fit for you. My goal is a match that works long-term, not just one that makes the sale easy.
What if I live far away? Can I still get a puppy?
Absolutely. I offer personal door-to-door delivery, scheduled group delivery routes, and professional flight nanny service — where a trained nanny accompanies your puppy in-cabin on a commercial flight to an airport near you. I also work with two trusted driving services, Furry Trails and Legacy Pets, for routes where I’m not making the delivery personally. Distance is no barrier. See all delivery options →
Does every puppy really go through this full program?
Yes — every puppy, every litter. ENS training, the socialization program, the vet exam, the health records, the family matching process. None of it is optional or special. It’s the standard. I’ve seen what the results look like when this work is done right, and I’m not willing to cut it short.
How do I prepare my home for my new puppy?
Once you reserve your puppy, I send you a detailed preparation guide covering puppy-proofing, supplies to have ready, how to set up feeding and sleeping areas, and what to expect the first few days. I’m also available by phone to walk through your specific home setup if you have questions before your puppy arrives.
What does my puppy come with when they go home?
Your puppy arrives with complete health records and vaccination certificates, microchip registration information, a signed 2-year written Health Guarantee, 30 days of complimentary Trupanion pet insurance, a starter bag of their current food, and a puppy care guide for the first week home. Everything is organized and ready at handoff.
